Mr. Holman's Weekly Update 12/13/21

Dear Parents and Guardians:

This is always a busy time of year, and these weeks between Thanksgiving and Winter breaks have been at least as busy as ever!  We try to avoid scheduling more than one type of event on any given evening, but it is not always possible.  As mentioned last week, we experienced some situations that have made our home schedules a bit more full.  Please see the boys basketball update for more information on that.  Thanks again for all of the understanding and support of your kids in activities.

An additional gift of music:  The MMS and MHS bands will present a Holiday Instrumental music performance this coming Wednesday, December 15 at 7 pm in the MHS auditorium.  Thanks again to our talented kids and their teachers for their great work!

Winter Sports second season, additional information: Girls basketball (open to 6-8 grade girls) and wrestling (open to 6-8 grade boys and girls) begin right after winter break.  If you haven't yet signed your child up on Register My Athlete, please do so as soon as possible.  (On the RMA site, look for Moscow High School and then either Middle School Girls Basketball or Middle School Wrestling.  All forms must be submitted, including a current sports physical, before a child can be allowed to practice/participate.)  We will be holding lunchtime/ informational meetings for our students later this week, and will let them know via school bulletin.  Coaches for Girls basketball include John Thill, Rich Abrams, Anna Prevost, Kevin Roach, Bill Myers and Brandon Merk.  This group has a lot of experience and I am excited to have so many MMS staffers serving as coaches.  In wrestling, it is with mixed emotions that I announce that Matt Haley is stepping down from his long term role as head of that program to focus on family.  Matt has done an absolutely terrific job in that role, and we will miss him.  At the same time, family comes first, and I applaud for his commitment there.  I am very excited to announce that Shane Spence (former Cub, Bear wrestler) and three year assistant here is stepping up to take the head coaching role this season.  He is joined by Christina Day and Jalon Lumar, both highly qualified candidates.  Welcome!

Update for sports schedules this week:  Our sixth grade boys finished their season with scrimmages last Friday afternoon.  The boys did a great job, and thank you to coaches Bill Myers and Brandon Merk for your positive leadership.  We were able to successfully move two basketball events that were originally intended to happen in Pullman this week.  We will now be hosting these events in the MHS gym, in addition to Wednesday's originally scheduled games.  We really appreciate Pullman's support and assistance with this:

  • Monday, Dec. 13: Moved the B boys games from Pullman to the Moscow High school gym, tripleheader, see schedule below
  • Thursday, Dec. 16:  Moved the A boys games from Pullman to the Moscow High School gym, two games, see schedule below

Girls Basketball, Wrestling Parent meeting:  I will be providing some information regarding the next two seasons this coming Tuesday evening, 6:30 pm, via the Zoom link below.  Due to possible conflicts for you, I will record this meeting and post it to the MMS website by Wednesday morning
