Mr. Holman's Weekly Parent Update 11/09/20

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Wednesday, November 11 is a district Professional Development Day.  As such, teachers will not have office hours as they do most Wednesdays.  Wednesday is also Veterans Day.  Among other things that are happening this week, our Social Studies teachers will be honoring veterans through activities with their students in classes on Tuesday and Thursday this week.  On behalf of Moscow Middle School, I want to thank all veterans for your and their service to our country.

Quarter 1 Report Cards - We will be sending Quarter 1 report cards out this week. This report represents a snapshot of how your child is doing as of the end of last week. If your child is not yet doing as well as is hoped, please don't panic!  With our late start and new model, it is taking some longer than others to get into a groove. It is also important for students to be engaging in school work and activities for a few hours on each of their non-school hybrid days or their online-only days.  These are challenging habits to develop, and we have some tools and strategies if your child needs some assistance.  Please don't hesitate to contact a teacher, counselor or administrator with any questions that you may have.  We are here to help!

Additional assistance times for students - This week we will be instituting a 'Golden Ticket' opportunity for students to come in to work with teachers either before or after school by prior arrangement.  Students who wish to come in before school or stay after school may ask their teacher for a pass (ticket) that specifies date, time and teacher. Parents or teachers may request these arrangements as well.  A and B hybrid students are asked to come in only on their specific school days. As with other school day activities, students will wear masks and properly distance when they are participating.

Canvas hands on training session for parents - This Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm we are hosting a hands on training for 15 families in the MMS MPR.  We have received some requests to create opportunities such as this one.  I will send a dedicated email out Monday morning with a link to sign up if you are interested.

MMS Boys Basketball scrimmages this Friday - We will have our first boys basketball scrimmages this Friday in the Bear Den.  We have created three groups of players and will be creating scrimmage teams within these groups. We will be rotating the starting times for each groups as we proceed, and we currently have four Friday afternoon scrimmage events scheduled.  The games will be officiated and will last about an hour each.  In addition to the weekly calendar below, you can find practices and games on our sports master schedule linked here:  https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0/embed?src=allenc@msd281.org&ctz=America/Los_Angeles   Current group (A, B, C)  rosters are included in this document:  Boys A Basketball Roster-20.pdf

Important Note About Boys Basketball Scrimmage Attendance - Due to the State of Idaho being in Covid-19 Stage 3 status, we are only able to allow 50 spectators into the Bear Den at a time.  For this reason, we ask that you limit attendance to 2 per player, and that you stay only for the game that your child is playing in.  Thank you for your help with this requirement.

Wednesday, Nov. 11              Professional Development Day (see above)

Wednesday, Nov. 11              Canvas Observer (Parent) training session, 6:30 pm, MMS MPR

Friday, Nov. 13                       Boys basketball scrimmages – triple header
