Mr. Holman’s Weekly Parent Update 10/24/22

Dear Parents and Guardians:

End of Quarter Reminder - Our first quarter ends this Friday, October 28.  MMS will mail report cards at that time, which serve as a mid-semester progress report. You can follow student progress on both Canvas and on PowerSchool, the latter being the official database for final grades.  If you wish to follow your child on Canvas and/or check in with PowerSchool and haven't yet set things up, resources can be found on our school web page MMS Home - Moscow Middle School (msd281.org) under the Parent Resources tab.  If you have questions, please contact the MMS office.

Red Ribbon Week is celebrated nationwide the last week in October each year, an encouragement for all kids to remain drug free. Prevention Coordinator Mandy Strey, intern Ellie Mayo and our Speak Out kids will be hosting lunchtime activities this week of October 24 - 28.

Drug Awareness Talk, MHS Auditorium - Tuesday October 25 6:30-7:30 pm in the MHS Auditorium

MMS Conference Day, Tuesday, November 1 - We are continuing to contact families to set up conference times for selected students. Teachers will also be making individual contacts with families on that day, and you are invited to contact a teacher or teachers if you would like to arrange a time to talk or to meet.  We will also be creating opportunity for students who wish to come in to school to do makeup work on Monday, 10/31, and Tuesday, 11/01, if they wish. Please contact us if you would like your child to take advantage of such an opportunity.

Sports update - MMS has four sports seasons, in line with our Bi-State league.  Boys basketball starts tomorrow and ends prior to winter break.  Winter Cheer begins next week until the end of February.  Girls basketball and wrestling (coed), both for grades 6-8, begin right after winter break, ending in late February/early March.  Track and Field for grades 6-8 begins right after spring break in late March.  Important Boys Basketball Note:  The team selection times for grades 7 and 8 have been combined...team selection will take place Monday and Tuesday from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Bear Den for both grade levels.  Regular practices will start Wednesday, October 26 for all players in grades 6-8.
