Mr. Holman’s Weekly Parent Update 10/17/22

Mr. Holman’s Weekly Parent Update 10/17/22

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We fully wrap up the fall sports seasons this week and will be shifting to our boys' basketball season which begins next week (see below for more information.)  Moscow Middle School has just under 500 students currently and the combined number of kids out for sports this fall was just over 250.  This is terrific!  In addition, more than half of our fall coaches are employed by MSD in other capacities, as teachers, paraprofessionals, etc.  Many more of our students are participating in other extracurricular activities including clubs, Knowledge Bowl and Jazz Band, with supervision and guidance provided by MMS teachers.  Students who participate in extracurricular activities tend to do better in school and create stronger and more positive relationships with others. We really appreciate your support of your children in all aspects of MMS life!

Sports Information

  • 6th Grade and B volleyball had their final matches last week.  A volleyball finishes their season Monday, 10/17, at home against Pullman (MHS Gym)
  • Fall Cheer wraps up this week, stay tuned for
  • Football finishes their season with games in Clarkston on Wednesday, 10/19 at the Clarkston High School field.
  • Boys basketball for 7th and 8th graders begins right after school on Monday, October 26 in the Bear Den.  6th grade boys will begin later that week.

Red Ribbon Week is celebrated nationwide the last week in October each year, an encouragement for all kids to remain drug free. Prevention Coordinator Mandy Strey, intern Ellie Mayo and our Speak Out kids will be hosting lunchtime activities the week of October 24 - 28, with more information coming home on Friday, Oct. 21.  Thank you for your support!

MMS Conference Day, Tuesday, November 1 - We will be contacting families for conference appointments later this week, as previously mentioned.  We will not be hosting an open conference session, partly due to continued Covid concerns.  Teachers will also be making individual contacts with families on that day, and you are invited to contact a teacher or teachers if you would like to arrange a time to talk or to meet.  We will also be creating opportunity for students who wish to come in to school to do makeup work on Monday, 10/31, and Tuesday, 11/01, if they wish. Stay tuned for more information!
