Mr. Holman's Weekly Parent Update 09/13/21

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are sure enjoying your children!  I find myself regularly telling folks from other towns and districts how terrific our kids are to work with.  As an example:  Prior to August 27, student ambassadors, former ASB officers and cheerleaders came in to school to decorate the halls to be more welcoming.  Among other things, students hung streamers across the hallways, most of which are within easy grasp of kids as they pass underneath them.  As I write this, all of those streamers are still up!  Every single one of our 507 kids is respecting the school and  appreciating the work that went into putting those things up:  Streamers.jpg  Thanks for sharing your terrific kids with us.

School photo retakes/sports photos:  Leo's Photography will be here tomorrow (Monday) afternoon for photo retakes and then sports photos.  We have handed out packets to most of the kids in those cohorts, but please contact our office if you would like one.  Alternatively, you may order photos online at  Home :: LEO'S Photography (leosphotography.com) using the following envelope codes:  School photos/retakes - FAL193641    Sports photos - SPO4014  If you received photos from the first session that you would like retaken, please have your child bring them to school tomorrow.  As always, contact the MMS office if you have questions.

Canvas/PowerSchool Update - Our tech staff has been communicating daily with those companies, and we are getting closer to having things running the way they should (for those of you that may still be having issues.)  I will mention again that I will send out some more information when we are operating on all cylinders.  Note:  In the Canvas Parent Guide it is stated to contact Jennifer Fealy if you have a Canvas question.  The contact is now Soona Schmidt - schmidts@msd281.org.

Sports update - We have had a couple of events so far and have several home events scheduled and/or nearly finalized in the next few weeks.  Our 8th grade football team was able to play at Jenifer Middle School in Lewiston last Thursday, the first interscholastic event in a year and a half!   Cross Country made the trip to Clarkston for the Seaport Invitational Saturday morning.  Connor Horne was the individual boys medalist and Moscow Middle boys took the team trophy.  Anna Lynn and Cora Crawford finished second and third, respectively, in the girls race, and the Moscow Middle girls placed second as a team.  Great job, everyone!   I will be updating our sports calendar over the next day or so with volleyball matches and/or scrimmages for our 6th graders and B teams.  Note:  In addition to the other events already scheduled, our B volleyball teams will scrimmage this Friday afternoon in the Bear Den, 3:30 p.m. and families are invited.  Please remember that masks are mandatory at this time.  I appreciate your support and understanding as we work to schedule events that are safe and as we work around heavily used gym spaces and a shortage of drivers in our transportation department.

Thanks again for your help and support in getting this year off and running!
