Mr. Holman's Weekly Parent Update 09/06/21

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Thank you very much for the staff appreciation treats that we received to start the week!  Staff members were very grateful for a quick snack and a little extra energy as they ramped up for opening day.  It was terrific to finally get the school year going.  Your children are the best, and we feel fortunate every day to be able to work with them.  As you may have heard we spend quite a bit of time on procedures and expectations during the first few days.  We cover everything from lunch procedures to safe and proper use of technology, and all that takes a bit of time.  Our goal is to set students up for a successful experience in a structure which supports just that.  Some of the information the students receive is on the main page of the website if you are interested.

Safe travel to school - This is a repeat notice from last week, and thank you for helping to keep things as safe as possible for all students:  We encourage as much walking and bike riding as possible every school day.  We have plenty of bike rack room for that purpose.  If you are dropping your student off, please use the lower (tennis court) parking lot.  Do not pull into the main (east) parking lot to drop students off.  You may use that lot if you need to park and come into the building whenever that is necessary.  For student drop off, please enter the lot nearest the tennis courts, loop through the lot in a counterclockwise manner, pull up as far as you can and drop your child or children off.  When pulling back out onto D street, please remember there is no left turn so that traffic can flow as smoothly as possible.  It is also helpful if students have their materials ready to simply grab and go as you arrive to minimize unloading time.  Please leave early enough so that a little delay does not cause frustration, and be very careful at intersections near the school.  We appreciate your assistance in helping all of our students arrive safely.  If you haven't yet verified a bus route or have another transportation question, please call the transportation department at (208) 882-3933.

Canvas and One-to-One devices, cntd. - We believe that Canvas is operating the way that it should at this point.  MMS teachers will now be able to help students learn or re-learn to utilize it when necessary.  Please let me know if you at home see any continued issues.  We are continuing to issue Chromebooks to those who have not yet received them, and I am reattaching the User Agreement forms in case you still need them:  One-to-One Handbook - MMS Responsible Use Policy 2021-22.pdf

Photo Retakes and Sports Photos - Leo's Photography will be back Monday afternoon, Sept. 13 for photo retakes or first photos for those who have not yet had pictures taken.  Picture packets will be available in the office and will be sent home with members of sports teams early this week.  Photos can be ordered online as well.  I will send an email Tuesday with a photo session ID code to allow you to do that if you wish.

PST Corner - The meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday evening this week has been postponed.  I will provide an update in next week's Weekly Notes.
