Mr. Holman's Weekly Parent Update 08/23/21

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are very excited to invite students and parents in to school this Friday, August 27 for our Cub-Palousa day!  This event is outlined in our school newsletter, attached here again in case you missed it:  MMS Newsletter August 16 2021.pdf  We corrected a typo (in one spot the date for the first day of school was incorrect.)  For assurance, the first day of school is Wednesday, September 1.  We want to also assure everyone that we are monitoring local Covid conditions and will notify you as soon as possible if updates are necessary and/or if any plans change.  Thank you for your support and understanding.

Friday, August 27 Cub-Palousa Day - In the newsletter attached above, you will find the schedule of times that students and parents are invited in to pick up schedules, tour the school, meet teachers and get photos taken.  We are happy to create this opportunity and we want it to be as safe and efficient as possible.  Toward that end, please follow these guidelines:

  • Masks are required for everyone.
  • Check the schedule in the newsletter and come in at your appointed time.
  • If you cannot make your scheduled time or if you would like to come in when there are fewer people in the building on the following Monday or Tuesday, please contact the school office (208-882-3577).
  • Please pay fees online if possible.
  • When in the building, please properly distance from other families and move about efficiently.  We do not want to rush you or your child, but will need to keep things moving to make the event as safe as possible.
  • Your child will be issued a Chromebook (along with a case and a charger) and they can be picked up on this day.  Please print, read and sign the attached document and bring it with you to turn in:  One-to-One Handbook - MMS Responsible Use Policy 2021-22.pdf   Note: There are two contracts in the document and two places for the parent and child to sign.  We will have hard copies available but want to make the process as efficient as possible here in the building.
  • If you have more than a question or two for a teacher, please follow up by email and/or make arrangements to meet at a later time.

Thank you very much for your help with this event!

Transportation, revisited:  I sent an email out last week asking that you call the transportation department if you need to schedule your child to ride a bus or if you have questions.  Please use this number (not the same one I sent last week):  208-882-3933

Fall sports, cntd:   Thank you to everyone who was able to attend last Thursday's Zoom.  If you were not able to do so, a recording of the general session and documents containing specifics for the various fall sports will be updated to our website by noon tomorrow (Monday, August 23.)  Here is a link to that page for your convenience:  Sports Teams and Schedules - Moscow Middle School (msd281.org)  A couple of notes:

  • Football equipment handout takes place tomorrow (Monday, August 23) as follows:  8th grade - 3 pm, 7th grade - 4 pm.  Please have your child meet on the east side of the Bear Den at the appointed times.  Practice on Tuesday, August 24 will begin at 3:25 pm for both 7th and 8th graders (students are expected to be ready to go at that time) at the Bear Den.
  • All athletes must have all forms turned in (to Register My Athlete) in order to be allowed to practice.  Please pay fees as soon as possible and we will send out a reminder and final payment date soon.  If fees are a problem, scholarships are available.  Please contact Mrs. Borchers in the MMS office if you have questions (208-882-3577).
