Mr. Holman's Weekly Update 05/17/20

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I hope you were able to get out into some of the terrific weather we had this weekend!  It is amazing to think that June is just around the corner.  We are approaching the scheduled end of the school year much differently than usual, of course.  Please note information about upcoming and ongoing dates and deadlines.

The MMS Office will be open from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm every day until office staff leaves for the summer in June.  We will be able to take calls and facilitate pickup and drop off of items each day during those times.

Locker and other item pickup: We still have items for many students that have yet to be picked up.  If you and/or your child were not able to make it in to the school last week during one of the scheduled pick up times, please give the MMS office a call or stop by during office hour times and we will bring the items out to you.

Yearbooks:  Yearbooks are scheduled to arrive by the end of the week if you have purchased one for your child this year.  We will notify you when they are in and discuss pickup options at that time.

Final assignments, Chromebooks, Classroom Books and Materials turn in:  The final day to turn in assignments for classes is Thursday, May 28.  Teachers will be limiting assignments more than ever as that date approaches to give students a chance to finish up, including things they may not have gotten to yet.  You may see final due dates from teachers that are earlier than the 28th in preparation for finishing things up. We will continue to take items until the 28th, however.  Chromebooks, textbooks, classroom reading books and other items are due on Thursday, May 28 as well.  If you have some of those items, please plan to stop by to drop them off on that Thursday or Friday during our office hours.  Thank you ahead of time for helping us gather those items.

Grading, continued:  As mentioned last week we have the option to award a Pass instead of a letter grade in cases where extenuating circumstances affect awarding a usual letter grade.  In certain cases we have the option to designate 'No Grade' as well.  This designation would be given if the student has limited or no interaction with a class and therefore has not earned a Pass or other letter grade.  We will be notifying you if your child is in this situation with a class, and please contact us if you have questions.  Important Reminder:  No student will be retained due to the Covid-19 soft closure.  As students move to their new grade levels they will be experiencing modified programming to account for the effects of the closure. We are beginning to work district wide to facilitate those steps as we prepare for the next school year.
