Mr. Holman's Weekly Parent Update 03/22/21

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I hope that the break was relaxing and enjoyable for your family!  It was nice to have a bit of spring weather, not always the case on the Palouse.  Reminder:  Monday, March 22 is a distance learning day this week. Please remind your children to check into Canvas tomorrow (Monday) morning to get the week started.  School staff members will be making final preparations to begin four day weeks for the hybrid students.  All former A and B hybrid students, along with those who are shifting from online-only, will come to school Tuesday through Friday this week.  We will be back on the M-T-Th-F in-school schedule next week, with open office hours Wednesday mornings.

As we begin our four day weeks for in-school students, we are changing as few variables as possible in order to maintain the safest conditions that we can.  The major change is that students will be closer together in classrooms and at lunch than they have been.  Masks, handwashing/sanitizing and maintaining as much distance as possible are all extremely important!  To prevent hallway congestion students will still be required to carry a backpack with them, instead of using lockers.  We have made some minor adjustments in the lunchroom to help things move along as smoothly as possible.  It is still necessary that students use their lunchroom time to eat rather than do much visiting at that tables.  They can then visit with friends, at an arms length distance, during the outside time.  They have done a very good job getting used to this.  Students are excited to see more of their acquaintances, so we anticipate a lot of visiting!

Track and Field:  Our first practice will take place after school on Tuesday, March 23.  Students will gather by 3:15 in the Bear Den.  We have the potential of virtually participating in meets with other schools this season, so stay tuned for more info.  There is still time to join!  Please contact me or the MMS office if you have questions.

Student Engagement Survey:  Each year the Idaho State Department of Education requires districts to survey staff, students and families.  Our students will be taking the student engagement survey this Thursday, March 25, during their ELA classes.  Online-only students are required to take the survey as well, and instructions will be sent to those students through Canvas.  You will hear more about the parent portion of the survey shortly.

As always, if you have questions please contact me or the MMS office.  Thank you for your continued support!
