Mr. Holman's Weekly Parent Update 02/20/23

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Moscow Middle School has been working with Greg Sommers and the Idaho-based CORE project since 2009, providing opportunities for students to develop stronger connections and positively enhance our school climate.  In addition to 6th grade Cub Pride, 7th grade Respect and Responsibility and 8th grade CORE days that took place earlier this year, we have a themed weekly activity each Friday morning during homeroom.  These valuable activities take approximately 30 minutes and are facilitated by the homeroom teacher or another staff member.  I have had to good fortune to be a facilitator nearly every week since the beginning of the year, and I look forward to these activities and the opportunity to work with kids in this way.  Our PST group thought it would be beneficial for me to include our weekly CORE theme along with the CORE challenge that the students receive in the email each week. The lesson last week focused on kindness.

This week's CORE/Cub Pride topic:  Diversity     This week's Lesson Guide:  Diversity-Course-1-The-Core-Project-Advisory-Curriculum.pdf

The weekly CORE challenge:  Pick one of the challenges below or make up your own. The idea is simply to become more understanding and aware of the variety of differences all around.

  1. Join or visit a club you’ve never considered before.
  2. Learn about a disability and what it is like for someone to live with one.
  3. Visit with a grandparent or older relative and ask them to share what it was like for them growing up.
